A Century of Legal Service in the Yuba-Sutter Region
For more than 115 years, Rich, Fuidge, Bordsen & Galyean has stood at the center of legal life in Marysville and Yuba City. We are the oldest law firm north of San Francisco — a distinction we don’t take lightly. When W.P. Rich opened our doors in 1909, the Yuba-Sutter region was a different place, but the values that built this firm — diligent advocacy, deep local roots, and a personal commitment to every client — are the same values that drive our seven attorneys today.
Our History
The firm was founded in 1909 by W.P. Rich, a Marysville attorney who was simultaneously serving as President of the California State Senate, a position he would hold for twenty-five years. From the beginning, our practice was tied to public service and to the legal infrastructure of Northern California.
In 1936, Richard Fuidge joined the firm and went on to devote more than four decades to its growth. A respected trial lawyer, Mr. Fuidge was a founding member of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California — an organization still active today. Over the generations, attorneys including Thomas Marsh, Roger Grove, Charles Dawson, John Sanbrook, Roland Iverson, Stephen Berrier, and Chester Morris carried the firm forward, many ultimately leaving to take judicial appointments or retire after long, distinguished careers.
Today’s Firm
Today, RFBG is a seven-attorney general practice firm based at 1129 D Street in historic downtown Marysville. Our team brings more than 150 years of combined experience to every client matter, and while many firms in our area focus on a single niche, we offer true full-service representation across:
- Family Law — including divorce, custody, support, and adoption
- Estate Planning & Probate
- Real Estate & Property Law
- Business & Commercial Law
- Civil Litigation
- Personal Injury
- Employment Law
- Evictions and Landlord Representation
- Criminal Defense
Our attorneys appear regularly in California state courts across Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, Butte, Yolo, Nevada, Placer, Glenn, Solano, and Sacramento counties — wherever our clients need representation.
What Sets Us Apart: One Firm, Every Stage of the Problem
Life rarely sends one legal issue at a time. A car accident leads to a settlement that needs to be folded into an estate plan. A criminal charge becomes the moment a spouse files for divorce — or tries to take the kids. A landlord’s eviction case turns into a contract dispute with the property manager. A business owner’s partnership argument quietly becomes an employment claim.
When that happens, most firms hand you a referral and a phone number. We don’t.
Rich, Fuidge, Bordsen & Galyean is built so that whatever comes next, the next attorney is already down the hall. You won’t be re-explaining your story to a stranger, re-paying a retainer to a new firm, or wondering whether two outside lawyers are talking to each other. We are one team, and we coordinate across practice areas the way a family handles a problem — together, with everyone in the room who needs to be there.
What makes that work is that our attorneys aren’t generalists pretending to cover every area. Each one of us has a niche, and within that niche we go deep:
- Brant Bordsen and Tony Galyean each hold the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell — the highest peer-review rating available, awarded only to attorneys recognized by their colleagues and the judiciary for the highest standards of legal ability and ethical practice.
- Our other shareholders bring focused depth in real estate and property law, business and commercial matters, civil litigation, evictions, estate planning, and personal injury.
That structure is the difference. You get the breadth of a full-service firm with the focus of a specialist — and when your matter crosses into another area of law, the handoff happens inside the same building, with attorneys who already know your file.
Our Approach: Passion. Experience. Diligence.
Three words have guided this firm for generations. Passion — because this work matters, and our clients deserve attorneys who care about the outcome. Experience — because the law rewards judgment that can only come from years in courtrooms, deal rooms, and county offices. Diligence — because no client matter is too small for our full attention, and no case is closed until it is truly resolved.
We are deeply rooted in Yuba-Sutter. Our attorneys live here, raise our families here, and serve on the boards of Rotary, Kiwanis, county bar associations, and other civic organizations that make this community strong. Visit each of our attorney profiles to learn about the local ties they bring to their practice. Our success is not a marketing line — it is our reputation, and you can ask our neighbors about it.
